Undereye Filler Columbus, Ohio
You Deserve To Revive & Rejuvenate Those Undereyes
Do your eyes make you look more tired than you feel? Undereye filler is great for people who have hollow under eyes, prominent dark circles or slight eye bags. Also known as a tear trough augmentation, undereye filler is a minimally invasive solution where hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers are safely injected underneath the eyes to restore lost volume and give a more refreshed and well-rested appearance.
Your Filler Experts: Skill & Experience Can Make All The Difference
The most critical component of a successful undereye filler treatment is your injector’s experience and technique. The injectors at Donaldson Plastic Surgery have over a decade of combined experience performing undereye fillers and enjoy a reputation for safely delivering consistent, beautiful and natural-looking results every time.
What Are The Undereye Filler Benefits?
When it comes to undereye filler, small volumetric changes make a big difference. A tear trough augmentation subtly softens deep undereye hollows and is an excellent approach for freshening the appearance of the eyes in a nonsurgical manner. Undereye filler is a nice technique for correcting volume loss due to aging, and can also address certain folds and lines around the eyes.

Three small fat pads exist underneath the eye. Through the natural aging process, those fat pads drop and diminish, causing the lower eyelid to appear more hollow and vertically extended than it was before. The semicircle that forms are called a “tear trough,” which is what causes tired-looking eyes.
How We Address More Severe Volume Loss
Some patients may be more prone to developing deeper infraorbital hollows due to their genetics or changes in facial musculature. Hollowness may also be caused by a downward displacement of the cheek’s fat pad, so your injector may also recommend a cheek augmentation in some cases to fully correct these concerns. This technique achieves lid-cheek blending; the line that once separated the two are softened and smoothed, a hallmark sign of a youthful-looking face.

For the right patient, undereye filler can brighten and rejuvenate the eyes. Undereye filler patients must have a true hollowing under the eyes due to volume loss to be a candidate for this treatment and they should have good skin elasticity. Patients who can benefit the most typically don’t need very much of a volumetric change to correct their concerns; otherwise, they may be a better candidate for undereye surgery.
Your Initial Consultation Is Incredibly Important
Many common undereye concerns are not going to be solved with undereye filler, including herniated fat pads under the eyes (puffy bags), moderate to severe eye bags, and skin concerns like hyperpigmentation, crepiness, or dark circles due to other environmental or genetic factors. Experienced injectors are comfortable identifying appropriate candidates for undereye filler, and comfortable recommending alternative treatments for which they may be better suited.
Undereye surgery (blepharoplasty), Renuvion skin tightening (J-plasma), laser therapy, Botox, microneedling or medical-grade skincare can be excellent alternative treatments for more specific undereye concerns.

The cost for undereye filler will vary based on your individual aesthetic goals, but the treatment typically costs between $700 and $1400. At your filler consultation, you will receive a quote for the treatment plan your aesthetic provider designs for you, and you will also receive additional information on any treatment options that may interest you.
How Much Filler Will I Need?
The amount of filler you will need is completely dependent on your individual goals for the area, so a consultation is necessary to know for certain. People with an average amount of hollowing will typically begin with one syringe of filler between the two eyes, while some may require one syringe per side.
-
When you come into the office for an undereye filler consultation, you will have a full face examination with your aesthetic provider, and they will make a recommendation for treatment based on your concerns. They will explain all of the steps for treatment with you, you will have all of your questions answered, and you can receive your filler treatment that very same day!
After the filler is placed, your provider may gently manipulate the filler into its ideal position. The filler is made of a malleable substance that is manually adjustable after placement in order to achieve optimal placement and distribution. You can see your beautiful result immediately after, and will even receive a complimentary makeup touch-up on your way out.

Precision and perfection matter for the undereye, which is why we prefer using hyaluronic acid-based fillers in the tear trough. We typically use a softer, less dense filler to build volume in these areas to capture the softness of the lower eyelids. Volbella and Vollure from the Juvederm Collection of Fillers, Restylane, or RHA are our preferred fillers for performing a tear-trough augmentation.
-
Generally, our patients do very well during undereye filler! We take every step to make sure you have a comfortable experience during the injection and an enhanced recovery afterward. Before the injection, the undereye area will be numbed using a topical anesthetic. The filler itself also contains a numbing agent to help control pain and discomfort during and after treatment.
-
There are common risks associated with any filler treatment, but this treatment is safe when performed by a well-trained injector who uses a blunt-tip cannula. The benefit of using a cannula with a blunt tip is that there is no chance of puncturing any delicate surrounding tissue or creating a vascular occlusion.
Cannula use in the undereye has become the standard of care for qualified injectors, and it dramatically reduces the potential for bruising.
-
Because the eyes are a sensitive area, swelling and bruising are to be expected. We usually recommend holding off on treatment if you have important plans coming up in the next two weeks. The filler will feel firm to the touch in the days after treatment, which is completely normal, and this will naturally soften over time. Giving yourself time to heal after receiving undereye fillers is always wise, and recommended to see your best results.
-
Results are seen immediately after an undereye filler treatment, and beautiful results should be expected! The most important thing is to establish clear communication with your injector and you are bound to love the results of your tear trough augmentation.
However, if you are at all second-guessing your decision after treatment, simply call our office to set up a follow-up appointment to discuss options for adjustment or dissolving!

On average, undereye filler lasts from about 8 to 14 months. Most hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers are indicated to last for approximately one year, but they may last longer or shorter depending on the metabolism and the facial anatomy of the patient.
